Read with a Partner, and Listen to Reading
Guided Reading: Students work in a small group with the teacher where reading strategies are introduced and monitored.
Reading Strategies: Each week students will be given a reading strategy to focus on. After reading independently, students will write in their Daily 5 Journal using the assigned Strategy of the week.
Reading: A variety of Genre's will be used throughout the year. Students are highly encouraged to choose good fit books.
Writing: Students will be working on narrative, opinion, argumentative, and research based papers. To prepare for M-Step testing, students will be given 3 articles to read and combine information from all three articles to create a new writing piece.
4th grade Spelling: Fourth Grade will be using Sitton Spelling. This may be very different then any Spelling program previously used. Students will not be given a list of words to study, rather, each week they will be given a set of 5 "Core Words". These words will be on the test for sure, the rest of the list is not given. This is because we will be looking at various word patterns throughout the year and students need to incorporate spelling into daily writing and not just memorize for a test. Each week any words spelled wrong becomes your child's new list. The words spiral throughout the year building upon 4th grade words that must be mastered.
